Architecture and design firm Robert A.M. Stern Architects (RAMSA) announced the promotion of Chen-Huan Liao to Partner. Founded more than 50 years ago by Robert A.M. Stern, RAMSA has grown into a leading global architecture and design practice with a team of 250 professionals and 17 Partners. As partner, Liao will continue to oversee the firm’s significant and growing body of work in Asia, where he has been instrumental in securing and executing large-scale multifamily and mixed-use master planning and architectural projects. Carrying over the lessons and expertise he has gained in New York, his extensive portfolio includes high-profile projects in cities such as Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Hong Kong, and his hometown of Taipei. Notably, Chen-Huan has been a driving force behind the One Museum Mile project in New York City and the Xin Yi Tower in Taipei, both of which exemplify his expertise in integrating architectural design with cultural and contextual sensitivity. His work on projects like Hengqin Port Plaza in Zhuhai and Lakeville V in Shanghai demonstrates his capacity to address complex design challenges while maintaining a high standard of quality and sensitivity.

“Chen-Huan’s promotion to Partner is a testament to his profound impact on our practice and his unwavering dedication to our future. His ability to navigate and harmonize diverse cultural contexts has been a key factor in our firm’s success,” saysDan Lobitz, Partner, RAMSA. “His dedication to architectural excellence, coupled with his commitment to mentoring and leadership, embodies the values and strategic goals of RAMSA. We are confident that his continued contributions will significantly enrich our firm and bolster our practice across the United States, Asia and beyond.”

Liao has been a cornerstone of RAMSA since he joined the firm in 2005, shortly after earning his Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation. Over nearly two decades, Liao has ascended through various roles within the firm, becoming an Associate in 2010, a Senior Associate in 2013, and an Associate Partner in 2014.

“Throughout my career, I have always believed that it is crucial to build consensus around design solutions that are both innovative and culturally authentic,” says Chen-Huan Liao, Partner, RAMSA. “My experiences in both New York and Asia have given me a vibrant and authentic perspective that I’m honored to bring to our projects. RAMSA is leading the way in shaping bold, innovative architecture around the world and as we expand our Asia practice, I’m incredibly excited to be part of this dynamic growth. This opportunity will allow me to continue our firm’s tradition of architectural excellence across the globe while contributing to the development of our next generation of leaders.”

In addition to his project work, Chen-Huan is an active member of several esteemed professional organizations, including the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Urban Land Institute, Congress for the New Urbanism, and the Urban Design Forum. His scholarly contributions include co-authoring "Continuous City," published by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, which explores strategies for creating engaging and walkable urban environments.
